Frequently Asked Questions
When do we fly?

Expect to arrive to the launch site 20-30 minutes prior to the launch. Once inflation procedures start, it is hard to stop so we will not start until you arrive. If you are scheduled for a morning flight, you will be asked to be at the launch site 1/2 hour before sunrise, since flights occur during the first hours of the morning and last hours of the day. We usually do not schedule evening flights as we find that there are many times the winds do not die down enough to get an hour flight in, and packing after dark is not always a party. Exceptions are made if the weather is cooperative.

Can we take pictures?

A moment will be spent with you regarding the do's and don'ts during the flight and then it's time to inflate. Have your camera handy, as it is always nice to document the whole balloon experience. Inflation is like watching a caterpillar turn into a butterfly, and can provide some unique photo opportunities. During the flight there are many beautiful photo opportunities. The crew also takes a few moments to get pictures from the ground, so make sure you exchange email addresses to receive some of our photo opportunities as well.

Can we help?

We always welcome individuals that like to take a "hands on" approach to the experience and want to jump in and help, so don't hesitate to ask.

What should I wear?

Once the balloon is inflated, you will be invited into the basket for the flight. Then, it's up, up, and away. Some people think that it's going to be colder in flight than on the ground, but that really isn't true at all. The temperature remains within a few degrees of the temperature on the ground, so wear clothing that you would normally wear during that time of year with a few exceptions. Please do not wear opened-toed shoes or sandals. Sneakers, shoes or boots are the order of the day here. Also, no shorts or skirts. Pants or slacks please. Lastly, some folks prefer to wear a hat. It is optional, but you might want to bring one along in case you decide that you want to wear one during the flight.

How long is a flight?

The flight will last about an hour. Sometimes it goes a little longer, and sometimes it will be a few minutes shorter. The time is determined by landing opportunities. Since we are not sure where we are going to land at the time of the launch, we cannot set our watch by it.

How high do we go?

Every flight is different. Sometimes we go high, sometimes we stay near the ground. We fly what Mother Nature dictates. Truly, this is the joy of ballooning.

How do we get back to our cars?

During the flight, we stay in contact with our chase crew by radio to insure they are at the landing sight upon our arrival. Once we have landed, we pack up the balloon and enjoy a 200+ year tradition of champagne toast and the balloon experience is over. You will be returned to your car with the whole day yet in front of you.

How long does the whole experience take?

The whole experience from the time you arrive to the time you head home should take about 3 hours. If you have other questions regarding your flight, please feel free to call and ask. If there is one thing about balloon pilots, they like to talk about ballooning.

Can't wait to see you at the launch site!
